03/09 2018 East Timor
East Timor is an island country located in Southeast Asia, with a predominantly mountainous relief and a fascinating history. The Portuguese colonization took place in the sixteenth century, but ceased in 1975. Nine days after the proclamation of independence, East Timor underwent Indonesian occupation until 1999, a time of many bloody clashes between separatist groups and the Indonesian army . Shortly after the Indonesian occupation, East Timor became the first sovereign state of the 21st century on 20 May 2012, when it joined the United Nations and the Portuguese Official Language Community.
The two official languages of East Timor are Portuguese and Tetum, member of the Austronesian languages.
